Maintaining Positive
Thinking
The Myth of
Will-Power
Just do it! Nike has
coined the ultimate slogan for ‘will-power’.
After all, isn’t that what having
will-power means? Doing something we know is good for
us? Having the will power to eat right, exercise, or take
the actions necessary to fulfill our dreams. Isn't
our will power the 'OOMPH' to maintaining positive
thinking so we follow through on all we say we want?
If it’s this easy, why don’t most of us ‘just do
it’?
The emotions and
conversation linked to having ‘will-power’ are…
“I have to ‘force’ myself to do
something.” Or, “I’m not going to like ‘doing’ it.
And “It’s going to be painful and
uncomfortable.”
Any time someone attempts to ‘force’ us
to do something, we react with resistance. So why would
it be any different when we try to ‘force’ ourselves to do
something? ‘Will-power’ is rooted in the external -
having to coerce or manipulate an
outcome. Maintaining
positive thinking will not happen from us having will
power. Staying
motivated will not happen through will power.
Maintaining positive thinking
comes from having a strong DESIRE.
If we want to create a lasting change,
it must become a DESIRE. There is no ‘force’ involved when you
desire something. Desire is an inside job! It knows
the reasons why you want to change and is the fuel to follow
through consistently while maintaining positive thinking.
With desire firmly rooted in us, the process of creating change
becomes a joy and an adventure. We become more spontaneous and our creative visualization opens
up to seeing and realizing more opportunities. With
desire anchored firmly within us maintaining positive thinking
becomes a natural process. When we are focused
and giving our attention to only the good our thinking
naturally becomes positive.
Let’s make
the shift from ‘will-power’ to DESIRE. With ‘desire’ in our hearts, anything
is possible!
How to be happy in life
always starts with getting in touch with our true
desires!
